Eton College – Boarding

Edgingtons have been involved with Eton College on their programme for maintaining , enlarging and the refurbishment of many boys boarding houses including Jourdelays.  Additional study bedrooms were provided, kitchens and dining areas refurbished and most importantly the circulation was remodeled by the design of a new staircase / entrance area in a contemporary structure on the approach to the House.

Much of the work has to be undertaken on a careful and sensitive manner in view of the occupation of the buildings and that many of the buildings are of Grade I on Grade ll listing.

Evans House was due for refurbishment and some additional study bedrooms required. Due to the constraints of the site, these were provided in a contemporary but sympathetic structure within the central courtyard of the House. Due to the difficulties within access to the site, the design was based on lightweight manageable materials of steel frame with timber cladding. A mansard roof was included to increase the upper level accommodation.
