Sustainability + Social Value

Climate change is putting pressure on the construction industry to adopt a more holistic approach to sustainable building design. Even though sustainability has always been part of Edgingtons’ culture, we continually review our processes and evolve our sustainability goals. We work closely with our Clients to minimise the environmental impact of our projects – this we do by establishing clear targets from the outset and regular reviews.

Edgingtons are committed to promoting developments that aspire to BREEAM and Passivhaus standards, with sustainability strategies and frameworks customised for each client and project. Vicky Kolliopoulou is our Sustainability Lead and is actively involved in ensuring that sustainable solutions are integrated into our projects from the early stages of the design process.

To create energy efficient buildings with low environmental impact, we maximise the building’s characteristics, such as orientation, shading, glazing areas, layout, thermal mass, insulation values, and ventilation strategies,  Healthy, local materials with low embodied energy are selected, where possible, to limit CO2 emissions during the construction process.

The well-being of those who live, work, learn and socialise in our buildings is paramount. Our aim is to create healthy, sustainable and high quality spaces in which people can flourish. Edgingtons have always been community focussed and we work with our Clients and the wider community to ensure that our building contribute to social well-being.

Vicky Kolliopoulou has recently been awarded the WELL AP, the new, leading credential signifying advanced knowledge of health and well-being in the built environment and specialisation in the WELL Building StandardTM (WELL).

The WELL Building Standard is the first building standard to focus exclusively on the health and wellness of the people in buildings. WELL is an evidence and performance-based system for measuring, certifying and monitoring features that impact human health and well-being in the built environment, through air, water, nourishment, light, fitness, comfort and mind. Edgingtons intend to continue to support the WELL initiative and support our staff as they seek accreditation.

Passivhaus

Edgingtons have successfully designed and delivered to Passivhaus standards.  Indeed we advocate adopting a Passivhaus approach, which results in energy efficient, healthy, and comfortable homes. High quality is assured via the reduced energy use, the good indoor air quality, and the comfortable temperatures for  occupants.
