Edgingtons were appointed by the London Borough of Hounslow to deliver a new-build SEND Wellness Centre at Heathland School.

Designed to provide 20 pupil spaces, the facility offers learning spaces and private rooms for visiting Educational Psychologists and Speech Therapists. A landscaped garden forms an integral part of the scheme, creating a calm and restorative setting that promotes wellbeing and positive engagement.

The building embraces a low-tech, natural construction ethos. Loadbearing strawbale walls, engineered timber floors and roof structures insulated with woodfibre, and natural finishes including lime render, clay plaster and FSCcertified timber combine to create a healthy, low-impact learning environment. High levels of insulation, MVHR, and roof-mounted solar PV panels enable the building to operate at net zero carbon, while careful acoustic design addresses its location beneath a busy flight path. The project demonstrates how sustainable design principles can deliver exceptional, inclusive educational spaces.
