New Classroom Block

Edgingtons were appointed by West Berkshire Council to deliver a new two-storey, eight-classroom building to replace outdated modular accommodation and respond to growing pupil enrolment.

Providing approximately 780 sq m, the design has been developed in accordance with BB103 and the client brief to create efficient, flexible teaching spaces that support the school’s evolving needs.

Classrooms are oriented towards the playing field to maximise views and daylight, with toilets and storage facing the existing main building. A full-length corridor links the two volumes and accommodates the main entrances and stairs, while the functional division is expressed externally through contrasting materials: brick to the classroom block and standing seam zinc to the secondary volume. Designed to meet the Council’s carbon neutrality ambitions and target BREEAM Excellent, the project will also unlock new hard play space and an official-size netball court following removal of the temporary modules.
