Asset Audit, Masterplan and Various Projects
Edgingtons was appointed to undertake a comprehensive sitewide masterplanning exercise for the college as it progressed towards becoming a co-educational institution.
The project reviewed existing facilities against projected pupil growth, with particular focus on academic, sixth form, and boarding accommodation. The aim was to create a strategic, phased plan that supported growth while maximising the efficiency and effectiveness of the existing estate.
Asset Audit
The initial stage of the project involved a detailed asset audit of the entire college site. This included visiting, surveying, and developing a thorough understanding of all existing buildings and spaces. Alongside this, Edgingtons assessed projected pupil numbers and analysed how future growth would impact spatial requirements. A detailed review of the existing timetable was undertaken, which identified a number of underutilised spaces with potential for repurposing, helping to reduce the need for additional new build accommodation.
Masterplan
Working closely with the senior leadership team, admissions team, bursar, head of estates, and headteacher, Edgingtons developed and tested several masterplanning options to accommodate future growth. The analysis highlighted that a number of subject departments were fragmented across the site, leading to inefficiencies and wayfinding challenges. The resulting masterplan consolidated departments, improved operational efficiency, enhanced circulation and legibility across the campus, and significantly reduced the scale of new building works required to meet the college’s long-term needs.
A detailed phasing and implementation timeline was produced, setting out works across 1-, 2-, 5- and 10-year horizons, enabling clear budget planning to deliver the long-term vision for the site.
Various Projects
Following completion of the masterplan, Edgingtons has continued to support the college through a series of projects arising from the agreed strategy. Phase 1 works have now been completed on site and include the refurbishment and reconfiguration of several existing buildings to deliver improved staff, teaching, and specialist facilities. These projects comprised the refurbishment of Skipwith Cottage to provide a consolidated suite of staff offices; the conversion of general teaching classrooms at Bevan into science laboratories to create a dedicated science facility; the refurbishment of Jubilee to provide general teaching accommodation; and the transformation of former science classrooms within Goodwin into specialist design and technology facilities.
Edgingtons is currently progressing Phase 2 projects, including a two-storey extension at Orchard House to deliver additional general teaching classrooms, a new dedicated medical and wellbeing building, and a new state-of-the-art sports hall with associated facilities.
